Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed Petr Cech is not in contention to play Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg with Atletico Madrid despite sending the goalkeeper out to training on Tuesday morning in a show of togetherness.

Cech took part in training on the eve of the contest a week after being ruled out for the season by Mourinho with a dislocated shoulder sustained in the first leg.

Cech departed after 20 minutes of last Tuesday's first leg, which finished 0-0, to be replaced by Mark Schwarzer, who is poised to continue again.

Mourinho insisted the Czech goalkeeper trained alongside injured personnel, suspended players and those fully fit to show solidarity.

"Everybody's ready and he's ready and that's the message we wanted to give," the Portuguese said. "Everybody was on the pitch.

"It's a very important match for our group. Everybody's together, everybody wants to help, everybody wants to play.

"His condition doesn't allow him to play, but the message from him and the group."

Captain John Terry (ankle) was also present in training, having initially been ruled out up to the May 24 final in Lisbon, while Eden Hazard (calf) and Samuel Eto'o (knee) were also present after recent absences.

As well as playing for a place in the Champions League final and a third European final in three years, the Blues are in contention for domestic silverware.

The London side won 2-0 at Liverpool last weekend to keep themselves in with a chance of the Premier League title, albeit a slim one with two games to play.

Mourinho's defensive tactics were criticised, among them by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who accused Chelsea of "parking two buses".

"Pundits are pundits and I don't want to comment a lot," added Mourinho, who employed Rodgers at Chelsea during his first spell.

"Brendan is a manager and is somebody that I consider my friend.

"I met him a long time ago when he was a very young coach coaching kids and I consider him a friend.

"I know his words after the match but I also know his words today and today he told me congratulations for a great victory and a great performance.

"I prefer to forget the words after the match and I keep the words of today."

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone shares Mourinho's belief that winning is all that matters as the Spanish leaders bid to eliminate Chelsea.

Following a goalless draw in the first leg at the Vicente Calderon Stadium last Tuesday and Sunday's win at Premier League leaders' Liverpool, Mourinho's defensive tactics were questioned.

Simeone did not add to the criticism, instead admitting to respecting a well-organised team such as Mourinho's.

"I'm a football man, I respect different ways of setting out your team," Simeone said.

"You can play 10 at the back or you can play 10 at the front. It doesn't matter. What matters is the result.

"It depends what you believe is the convenient way of playing and who you're playing against.

"To defend well is not easy, so you have to congratulate a team that defends well.

"To attack well is not easy either, so you have to congratulate also a team that goes on the attack.

"It's important that, regardless of how you play, that the team wins, that the club wins, that the institution as a whole wins.

"There is not one way of playing football. If we all played the same way it would be very boring."

Atletico are on the verge of an historic season which could finish with the Primera Division title and a Champions League final in Lisbon on May 24, with Simeone responsible for much of the progress the club has made in his two-and-a-half years as boss.

"I'm not thinking about what we've achieved," Simeone said.

"I'm not focusing on where we are at the moment, I'm just focusing on keeping on moving forward.

"I'm not comparing Chelsea, a team that won the Champions League two years ago, with Atletico Madrid.

"In the end the best team will win and I believe with our hard work, I believe we can do well and maybe try to get a positive result."

Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is set to play at Stamford Bridge for first time as a Chelsea player.

The Belgium goalkeeper joined the Blues from Genk but has spent three years on loan in Madrid.

Courtois has become one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Europe during his time at Atletico and has been backed by Simeone to handle the pressure.

Simeone added: "He's working hard to compete, to be one of the best goalkeepers at the moment.

"So far, he's still a very young player. He's still a player that's growing. He still needs the time to mature and to grow."

Jose Mourinho was unapologetically grumpy on the eve of the Champions League semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid and his team were unwaveringly stubborn in a goalless draw at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Chelsea lost 2-1 to Sunderland in the Premier League last Saturday to leave Mourinho in a sour mood and the European Cup they won in 2012 their most likely trophy chance this term.

Mourinho, appearing in the semifinals for a fifth successive season, was returning to the city which was his home for three years while Real boss as he seeks a third European Cup win on May 24 in Lisbon after successes with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

The Portuguese opted for a defensive approach against Atletico, who had never lost to English visitors in nine previous matches and were the last unbeaten team in the competition.

Los Rojiblancos, in the last four for the first time in 40 years, appeared undeterred by the pedigree of Chelsea and Mourinho in the competition, but encountered a black wall of shirts.

Striker Fernando Torres, starting against his former club, cut an isolated figure as the visitors packed men behind the ball, with Gary Cahill marshalling dangerman Diego Costa superbly.

Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, playing against his parent club, was a spectator for much of the contest, which saw Chelsea's long-time number one Petr Cech go off injured, clutching his shoulder after a heavy fall, inside the opening 20 minutes.

Captain John Terry also went off 18 minutes from time, forcing a defensive reshuffle, but still the visitors held firm to frustrate Atletico.

Chelsea are likely to be a different proposition at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday, but they could be without three stalwarts in Cech, Terry and Frank Lampard, who will serve a suspension following a second-half booking.

Like Lampard, who might have been shown a second yellow card for handball, John Obi Mikel will be banned for the second leg after being booked as Chelsea's approach came at a cost.

The Blues' starting XI had an impotent look with Samuel Eto'o [knee] and Eden Hazard [calf] absent, but instead of fielding Andre Schurrle as a 'false nine' -- as he did at Paris St Germain -- Mourinho opted for Torres.

The much-maligned Spain striker was given a warm reception on his first return to the Vicente Calderon since his July 2007 move to Liverpool, something which was not afforded for Mourinho, who was roundly booed and abused in a partisan atmosphere.

Ashley Cole, who had played just 13 minutes for the Blues since January, slotted in seamlessly after being included in place of the suspended Branislav Ivanovic, with Cesar Azpilicueta switched to right-back.

Costa -- a rumoured summer target for Mourinho -- and Terry acquainted themselves in one of a number of testy opening exchanges before Cech dealt with an inswinging corner.

As he punched the ball over from underneath his own crossbar, David Luiz pushed Raul Garcia into the Chelsea goalkeeper, who hit the ground with a thud.

The home fans showed little sympathy, chanting Courtois' name as Cech received treatment before Mark Schwarzer came on for his second Champions League appearance.

Atletico faced a defensive dam and Mario Suarez tried his luck from 25 yards, firing narrowly wide of Schwarzer's goal.

Azpilicueta threw himself towards Costa to block and Diego shot straight at Schwarzer as the half ended goalless.

Chelsea had few chances of note in the first period and Courtois was called upon only once, to claim a Lampard corner.

Lampard's shot was easily held by the Belgium goalkeeper early in the second half and then Courtois saved from Torres.

Defensive duties resumed for Chelsea, with Cole and Luiz making key defensive headers and Diego shooting wide.

Terry was forced off after a couple of meaty challenges saw him clutching his ankle - though again, contact with Luiz may have been to blame. The Brazilian dropped into defence as Terry was replaced by Schuerrle, who took Ramires' berth wide on the right.

Atletico tried to exploit the defensive reshuffle and a mazy Felipe Luis run almost led to an opening for Garcia, but Chelsea frantically cleared.

As the hosts searched for an opening the ball hit Lampard's arm, resulting in a melee with the Atletico players calling for the midfielder's dismissal.

Mikel and Gabi were booked in the aftermath, earning suspensions for both players, before Schwarzer turned Gabi's resulting free-kick round the post.

Substitute Arda Turan headed narrowly wide at the back post and Garcia also missed the target from a similar position.

Chelsea had a chance when Torres was felled by Suarez two minutes from time, but Luiz blasted the free-kick off target.

Atletico threw on David Villa to add to their forward options, but still Chelsea were resolute as Costa failed to test Schwarzer with a header in the second of five minutes of added time.

Turan fired well wide as Atletico finished frustrated and Chelsea departed to whistles from the home support; the away fans, meanwhile, lauded Mourinho and clung to the prospect of a repeat of two years ago.

bet365 Chelsea and Jose Mourinho dare to dream of European glory once more after overturning a two-goal deficit to advance to the Champions League semifinals at the expense of Paris St Germain.

Mourinho raced down the touchline in celebration of substitute Demba Ba's 87th-minute goal, which secured the 2012 winners a 2-0 win and a place in the last four for a seventh time in 11 years courtesy of Eden Hazard's away goal in the first leg.

It was a scene reminiscent of Mourinho's sprint at Old Trafford en route to his first European Cup success with Porto in 2004.

The trophy eluded the Portuguese during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, but he won it again in 2010 with Inter Milan and has another shot at glory four years on.

Chelsea trailed 3-1 after the first leg, but were unbeaten since September at home and had kept eight successive clean sheets prior to the match.

Mourinho believed in his side and, when Andre Schurrle swept in after 32 minutes, the Blues needed one more goal and to stretch that defensive mean-streak by one more game.

Against a PSG strikeforce vaunted even without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic that was no easy task, but the defence held their side of the bargain as the attackers tried to fulfil theirs.

Mourinho had gambled on the fitness of big-game player Samuel Eto'o, but was not banking on losing Hazard to injury after 18 minutes.

Schurrle, the Belgian's replacement, was anonymous in a 'false nine' role in the first leg, but thrived in the second, hitting the bar seven minutes into the second half.

Oscar struck the frame of the goal with a free-kick moments later and PSG had chances as Chelsea surged forward looking for the decisive goal.

It looked like it would prove elusive until Cesar Azpilicueta's drive into the area fell for Ba to turn the ball into the net and spark delirious celebrations, led by Mourinho.

Only two sides in Champions League history had overturned two-goal deficits, with Chelsea involved in both contests, losing to Barcelona in 2000 and beating Napoli 12 years later en route to European glory.

Mourinho called on his side to repeat the comeback of two years earlier against a PSG side which included Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi, then of Napoli.

PSG had lost just once by two clear goals in their previous 110 fixtures and boss Laurent Blanc hoped his side could impose their philosophy on Chelsea to show flair as well as grit.

Mourinho, meanwhile, told his players to enjoy the occasion, to play with smiles on their faces, insisting the result in Paris was more due to his side's failures than PSG's prowess.

The Portuguese dressed down in a tracksuit, but meant business, hurrying a ball boy operating near his dugout. Few Chelsea players seemed to enjoy a pulsating and disjointed opening.

Oscar found some joy down the left, so, too, did Eto'o, who had a shot deflected over before the striker showed his sharpness after a three-game absence with a hamstring injury by pressing Salvatore Sirigu as the goalkeeper dealt with a back-pass, only to commit a foul.

The left wing is usually Hazard's domain, but much to the concern of the raucous home faithful, the Belgian was subdued and soon limped off. The man coveted by PSG shook hands with Blanc on his departure.

The Blues had set-piece opportunities. A Frank Lampard free-kick kicked up wickedly off the wall, forcing Sirigu to turn the ball round the post. Sirigu was beaten soon afterwards as his static defence watched David Luiz flick on Branislav Ivanovic's long throw for Schurrle to sweep the ball into the bottom corner.

Schurrle appealed in vain for a penalty moments later when collided with Marco Verratti. Cavani and Lampard were booked in quick succession by referee Pedro Proenca - the man in the middle when the Blues won the 2012 European Cup - as tempers simmered.

Chelsea maintained the intensity after the restart and went close when Oscar's incisive pass found Willian. He pulled the ball back for Schurrle to strike a fierce drive which rebounded off the crossbar.

Lucas Moura fouled Eto'o on the left edge of the box for a free-kick in a dangerous position and Oscar's curling strike also hit the woodwork.

PSG's forays forward were ever more infrequent but danger lurked. Ivanovic was adjudged to have fouled Blaise Matuidi on the left edge of the Chelsea box, earning a booking which rules him out of their next European match.

Lavezzi's inswinging free-kick was clawed round the post by Petr Cech. Ba replaced Frank Lampard with 24 minutes to go and flicked on for Schurrle, who shot straight at Sirigu.

As Chelsea poured forwards, PSG had chances. The best fell for Cavani, who fired over after controlling Yohan Cabaye's 50-yard pass.

Still searching a second, the much-maligned Fernando Torres was thrown into the fray, but it was Ba who netted the decisive strike before Chelsea withstood a late bombardment to advance.
